The Range Regional Airport is a public use airport operated by the Chisholm-Hibbing Airport Authority centrally located on in Minnesota's Iron Range Region. The Range Regional Airport serves the needs of the region through commercial airline service, charter airline service and general aviation. Commercial service is provided daily by Delta Connection flights to and from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport utilizing 50 passenger Bombardier CRJ-200 regional jets. Charter flights to Laughlin, Nevada are operated by Sun Country Airlines utilizing Boeing 737's which can accommodate up to 162 passengers. The current airline terminal building was constructed in 1978 prior to service by larger aircraft. It was also prior to the required operational space now needed by the Department of Homeland Security, Transportation Security Administration (TSA) for passenger and baggage screening. The FAA, MNDOT Office of Aeronautics, Iron Range Resources & Rehabilitation (IRRRB) and the Chisholm-Hibbing Airport Authority will commit funds for the design of this project with construction funding sources projected for 2014 - 2015.
